Hot Business Opportunities In Nigeria

Nigeria is no doubt the biggest economy in Africa. This record is not just because Nigeria is amongst the top 10 oil-producing countries of the world, but for the fact that Nigeria is a nation with diverse culture and population unlike most other black nations. Population is one of the biggest factors that influence a country's economy, so Nigeria as a country with over 140 million population, with a rapidly increasing middle class population, is a sure business destination for any ambitious entrepreneur who wants to make quick returns on his or her investment capital.
One unique thing about Nigeria when it comes to business and investment opportunities is that fact that virtually everything is sellable in Nigeria, so long as you understand the marketing strategies. Now, one of the biggest factors you must put into consideration when planning to do business in Nigeria is price. Nigerians value price more than quality, so if you can capitalize on this fact, believe me, you will hardly get loss. This is one single reason why you see Chinese products selling like world wide web in Nigeria- simply because Nigerians are more concerned with cheap products more than quality ones.
One thing that discourages so many investors from investing in Nigeria is electricity, and I have also heard foreigners complain about corruption, but that's when you are viewing Nigeria from afar, and when you do not have a genuine mission, and when you try to follow a short-cut. Most foreigners listen to international news feeds telling them how horrible the Nigerian power sector is, and how corrupt all Nigerians are, but believe me, thousands if not millions of foreign companies are thriving here in Nigeria; making big profit even more than they are making in their home countries and in so many other countries where it is believed that everything is perfect, so what does that tells you as an entrepreneur? This testimony should tell you that Nigeria is a very fertile land for ambitious entrepreneurs desiring to make huge profit in lesser time-frame.
If you look at the global trend today, Nigeria is gradually taking over the global entertainment industry- such that when you talk of the most popular musical songs and movies, you must come across a Nigerian. And even the American artistes have recognized this fact, reason you see virtually all of them featuring Nigerian artistes and stars in their latest albums- Jay Z vs Timaya, Rick Ross vs PSQUARE, Wyclef vs ODB, Kanye West vs DBanj, Akon vs PSQUARE, Snoop Dog vs DBanj, Akon vs Davido, etc.
It is only a blind person that's not seeing the great business opportunities in Nigeria. Now, enough said, what are the hot business opportunities in Nigeria?
1. Car importation: Nigerians love cars, so irrespective of the fact that there are a lot of car importers currently in existence in Nigeria now, this still remains a hot business in Nigeria if you know how to go about it.
2. Importation of electronic gadgets: be it mobile handsets, home appliances or electronic games, it is a hot business in Nigeria if you have a solid business plan.
3. Wears: with Nigeria's ever increasing population, you don't need a talisman to tell you that clothing business is a hot business opportunity in Nigeria.
4. Entertainment: this is one of the hottest business opportunities in Nigeria presently. Nigerians naturally love fun and entertainment even before the arrival of the colonial masters, reason you hear things like- folktales at moonlight, community wrestling, village drama, cultural dance groups, etc…these are local forms of what we see as hip-hop, high-life, afro-juju, NOLLYWOOD movies, etc today. S o if you can be able to setup an entertainment business here in Nigeria (especially in any of these Nigerian cities- Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Asaba, and Ibadan), believe me, you are on your way to making the next forbes’ list of successful entrepreneurs.
You may be wondering the kind of entertainment business I am talking about, now let me break it down for you: Night club, music production (capitalize on discovering new Nigerian talents, you can launch a mini music talent hunt show to publicize your company and to create fast awareness), any informative reality TV show (gaming, music, modeling, pageant, literature) will sell fast in Nigeria.
5. Catering/Hospitality business: Nigeria's middle class population is fast growing, so they need catering, and they also need hospitality. In order words, hotel and fast food restaurant businesses are amongst the hottest business opportunities to look out for in Nigeria come 2015.
6. Automobile repair business: more and more Nigerians are buying new cars, and you may be surprised to know that thousands of Nigerians own over ten private cars running on the road on daily basis, so those cars need maintenance. Now, here is the secret: there are lots of local automobile mechanic shops with few advanced automobile repair centers already existing, so if you can distinguish yours by making it look modern, believe me, you will run from patronage. If you need more tip on this, kindly get back to me.
7. HAVC (Heating, Air-conditioning, Ventilation & Cooling): presently, we do not have reliable companies that are into this business in Nigeria. All we have presently are artisans and local technicians, and this is a high-demand service in present Nigeria. Remember, Nigeria is located in the Western region of Africa close to Sahara desert which makes it a high temperature region, so there is a dire need for ventilation and air-conditioning in Nigeria. Companies need HAVC services, individual homes needs it too, so explore the opportunity. Another tip off: if you can establish a well organized training school or academy to train people on HAVC, believe me, you are made. I speak from personal experience, and do have in mind that any business opportunity I am recommending here had been thoroughly researched by me, so feel free to explore and to contact me for further guidance.
8. Transportation business: Nigerians love traveling around the country, either for business or for pleasure. For instance, as we are approaching the Christmas season, virtually every Nigerian must travel to another state, and 80 to 90% of these travelers will go by road. This statistics should give you a clue on how profitable transport business is in Nigeria. For instance, on a daily average, transporters that make use of the long couch vehicles to move passengers within Lagos state alone, turnover $200 to $300 on daily basis, with less than $100 logistics expenditure. Believe me, with proper management, you will make lots of money in the Nigerian transportation business. And may I use this opportunity to inform you that transportation business is one of the fastest ways to becoming financially wealthy in Nigeria if you are able to manage the drivers. Note: drivers are the major challenge in this business, so good driver management is the secret to making it in this business as far as Nigeria is concerned. Once you are able to manage the drivers successfully, you are a success.
9. Education business: with Nigeria's ever increasing population, no number of nurseries, secondary or tertiary institutions can serve the population satisfactorily. Nigeria needs more standard private secondary schools and universities.
Now, you may be wondering; why haven't people ventured into these businesses? Remember, Nigeria is still a developing country, though it is fast developing, and remember, it is not so easy to raise capital to startup a business, and this has been the greatest challenge most aspiring entrepreneurs in Nigeria face today, so if you have the capital, and you have the entrepreneurial spirit, then look no further than Nigeria because it is amongst the hottest business destinations of 2015. If you need further assistance or guidance, feel free to contact me any time, any day, I will be glad to guide you, and to possibly work with you to success. Wishing you all a happy Christmas celebrations and a prosperous new year ahead!

Top 5 Ways to Raise Money For Small Business in Nigeria

The biggest challenge any would be Entrepreneur in Nigeria or elsewhere would face is how to raise money for business. It doesn't matter how profitable you think the proposed business is, doesn't matter how little the money you needed to start is - once you're not able to raise money to start the business, the business can never be started.

To raise money for business is the biggest achievement any aspiring Entrepreneur could make. Once you have the start up capital, every other thing falls into place easily and that is only when your business idea begin to make sense.

I've seen great business ideas die from conception due to inability of the Entrepreneur to raise money for the business. How do we then proceed to solve this seemingly biggest challenge facing business start ups in Nigeria and Africa? Here are the top 5 ways to raise money for business -- that any smart Entrepreneur should explore fast.

1. Personal Savings

Small-Business-Loan-Application-FormThe best person to give you money is yourself... If you plan to start a business soon, start saving for it now. Open a savings account in any bank and start saving bit by bit, spread your savings over the period of time you intend to kick start your business and make it a target to save certain amount periodically.

To be able to achieve this, you'll need to be resolute and disciplined. Cash demanding Problems may come along the way, look for other means to solve them -- ask yourself 'what if there is no savings what would you have done? Go with whatever answer you get and use it to solve the problems instead of using the saved  fund. With this, you will be able to raise money for business through personal savings.

2. Family and Friends

The oldest and sometimes, the easiest and most efficient way to raise money for business or any project by Nigerians over the years has been through family and friends. To give out money requires plenty of trust and no one knows and trusts you better than your friends and family members.

Make a list of your rich friends and family members and divide the total needed amount by the number of people in your list to make it smaller and easier for them. The biggest mistake many Entrepreneurs make is go approach only one person with the entire amount of money needed for their business, that can be overwhelming.

If you need N500,000, make a list of about 20 family and friends and divide the N500,000 by 20, that will give you N20,000. Then, approach each of the 20 persons in your list -- demanding for only N20,000. In that way, it would be easier for them to consider your request.

3. Co-Operative

The type we normally refers to as "Daily Contribution" It can be daily, weekly or monthly contribution -- look for group of people with common  interest and start the contribution with them. This is similar to personal savings, the only thing different is that others are involved.

Each time you contribute, someone among you take it -- do it until it reaches your turn. When you get yours, quickly put it into the business before other expenses carries it off.

Everyone in your co-operative must be people you trust to an extent, if not someone might attempt to disappear after collecting his without fulfilling same obligation to others. It is a bit risky but sure way to raise money for business in Nigeria, especially if you are fortunate to be the number one or two in the collecting order.

4. Micro Finance Banks

Open Account with any micro finance bank or co-operative bank of your choice and start saving certain amount regularly. Once you've saved up to six months, you'll quality for loan of twice your saved amount. One thing I don't like about micro finance is the fact that you'd have to wait for six months to quality for loan and having to pay interest in the loan even though your money have stayed with them for six months with no interest accruing to you.

However, that is the price you'll have to pay to raise money for your business and many people are finding success using it. So why not give it a trial. Look for any micro finance of your choice and start saving towards raising money for your business. Most of the major banks have their own version of micro finance -- you may go with this ones for they're more reliable.

5. Angel Investors

If you are not a control freak, if you are ready to give up some percentage of your company's equity then go for Angel Investors. Angel Investors are business start up incubators and they are not in any particular place -- your rich uncle could as well be your Angel Investor. Prepare a bankable business proposal -- clearly state your business plan and objectives. If the Angel finds your proposal appealing, they will invest in it. But, prepare to give up good part of your company up to 40% in exchange for the needed capital.

Read heartbreaking last letter Iranian woman wrote before she was hanged

Read heartbreaking last letter Iranian woman wrote before she was hanged

27 year old Reyhaney Jabbari was executed on Saturday October 25th by hanging in Iran seven years after she killed a man that she claimed had attempted to rape her. Before she was killed, Reyhaney wrote a very emotional letter to her mother, asking that her organs be donated to those who need them. See the full text of the letter after the cut...
The full text of the letter was translated by the National Council of Resistance of Iran:
Dear Sholeh, today I learned that it is now my turn to face Qisas (the Iranian regime's law of retribution). I am hurt as to why you did not let me know yourself that I have reached the last page of the book of my life. Don’t you think that I should know? You know how ashamed I am that you are sad. Why did you not take the chance for me to kiss your hand and that of dad?
The world allowed me to live for 19 years. That ominous night it was I that should have been killed. My body would have been thrown in some corner of the city, and after a few days, the police would have taken you to the coroner’s office to identify my body and there you would also learn that I had been raped as well. The murderer would have never been found since we don’t have their wealth and their power. Then you would have continued your life suffering and ashamed, and a few years later you would have died of this suffering and that would have been that.
However, with that cursed blow the story changed. My body was not thrown aside, but into the grave of Evin Prison and its solitary wards, and now the grave-like prison of Shahr-e Ray. But give in to the fate and don’t complain. You know better that death is not the end of life.
You taught me that one comes to this world to gain an experience and learn a lesson and with each birth a responsibility is put on one’s shoulder. I learned that sometimes one has to fight. I do remember when you told me that the carriage man protested the man who was flogging me, but the flogger hit the lash on his head and face that ultimately led to his death. You told me that for creating a value one should persevere even if one dies.
You taught us that as we go to school one should be a lady in face of the quarrels and complaints. Do you remember how much you underlined the way we behave? Your experience was incorrect. When this incident happened, my teachings did not help me. Being presented in court made me appear as a cold-blooded murderer and a ruthless criminal. I shed no tears. I did not beg. I did not cry my head off since I trusted the law.
But I was charged with being indifferent in face of a crime. You see, I didn’t even kill the mosquitoes and I threw away the cockroaches by taking them by their antennas. Now I have become a premeditated murderer. My treatment of the animals was interpreted as being inclined to be a boy and the judge didn’t even trouble himself to look at the fact that at the time of the incident I had long and polished nails.
How optimistic was he who expected justice from the judges! He never questioned the fact that my hands are not coarse like those of a sportswoman, especially a boxer. And this country that you planted its love in me never wanted me and no one supported me when under the blows of the interrogator I was crying out and I was hearing the most vulgar terms. When I shed the last sign of beauty from myself by shaving my hair I was rewarded: 11 days in solitary.
Dear Sholeh, don’t cry for what you are hearing. On the first day that in the police office an old unmarried agent hurt me for my nails I understood that beauty is not looked for in this era. The beauty of looks, beauty of thoughts and wishes, a beautiful handwriting, beauty of the eyes and vision, and even beauty of a nice voice.
My dear mother, my ideology has changed and you are not responsible for it. My words are unending and I gave it all to someone so that when I am executed without your presence and knowledge, it would be given to you. I left you much handwritten material as my heritage.
However, before my death I want something from you, that you have to provide for me with all your might and in any way that you can. In fact this is the only thing I want from this world, this country and you. I know you need time for this. Therefore, I am telling you part of my will sooner. Please don’t cry and listen. I want you to go to the court and tell them my request. I cannot write such a letter from inside the prison that would be approved by the head of prison; so once again you have to suffer because of me. It is the only thing that if even you beg for it I would not become upset although I have told you many times not to beg to save me from being executed.
My kind mother, dear Sholeh, the one more dear to me than my life, I don’t want to rot under the soil. I don’t want my eye or my young heart to turn into dust. Beg so that it is arranged that as soon as I am hanged my heart, kidney, eye, bones and anything that can be transplanted be taken away from my body and given to someone who needs them as a gift. I don’t want the recipient know my name, buy me a bouquet, or even pray for me. I am telling you from the bottom of my heart that I don’t want to have a grave for you to come and mourn there and suffer. I don’t want you to wear black clothing for me. Do your best to forget my difficult days. Give me to the wind to take away.
The world did not love us. It did not want my fate. And now I am giving in to it and embrace the death. Because in the court of God I will charge the inspectors, I will charge inspector Shamlou, I will charge judge, and the judges of country’s Supreme Court that beat me up when I was awake and did not refrain from harassing me. In the court of the creator I will charge Dr. Farvandi, I will charge Qassem Shabani and all those that out of ignorance or with their lies wronged me and trampled on my rights and didn’t pay heed to the fact that sometimes what appears as reality is different from it.
Dear soft-hearted Sholeh, in the other world it is you and me who are the accusers and others who are the accused. Let’s see what God wants. I wanted to embrace you until I die. I love you.

Enugu Deputy Governor

Enugu Deputy Governor orders driver to pay N60,000 for damaging his car mirror

Rev. Ifeanyi Nwoye
Rev. Ifeanyi Nwoye
A cooling van driver in Enugu, Mr. Uche Ijeoma, who allegedly hit the Prado Jeep on the convoy of the State Deputy Governor, Rev. Ifeanyi Nwoye, has been detained at the Government House.According to a report by The ADVOCATE NIGERIA, the incident occurred Monday last week near Enugu Airport flyover on the Enugu – Abakaliki highway while the Deputy Governor was on his way to the airport.
According to Uche, he had parked his van off the road on hearing the siren but while other pilot vehicle ahead of the Deputy Governor’s jeep had passed, the driver of the vehicle conveying the Deputy Governor came very close to the van and smashed the right side mirror at the back of the van.
He said. “Only the mirror was damaged and I can tell you that it was not my fault because I have parked off the road. The mobile policemen on the convoy stopped and beat me mercilessly using the butt of their guns to hit my head.
“Thereafter, they towed my vehicle to the New Haven Police Station, where I was detained and later granted bail.
“I was later told by the Deputy Governor’s security men that I have to pay N60,000 for replacement of the mirror but I could not afford it because the owner of the van was not in town since then and I could not raise such money.”
But it was further disclosed that when Uche reported at the New Haven Police Station on Monday, he was asked to report at the Deputy Governor’s office at the Government House.
On arrival at the Government Hosue, he was told by the Deputy Governor’s aides to pay the N60,000 for the replacement of the mirror but when he could not afford it, he was detained.
Nwoye’s aides, however, invited an auto firm, which replaced the mirror at the cost of N28, 000 Monday afternoon but by press time the driver (Uche) was still being held at the Government House.
It could not be confirmed if the Deputy Governor personally ordered his detention but his younger brother, who called him on phone said they threatened to detain him unless the money was paid before 4pm Monday.
One of Uche’s brothers, who identified himself as Chibueze, lamented that Uche was still being detained at the Government House by press time Monday evening and appealed to the Deputy Governor to kindly order his release.

Nigerian democracy needs new people – Jim Iyke also joins politics

Jim Iyke1
Controversial Actor, Jim Iyke has joined politics – unlike the others, he isn’t contesting for a political post.
The Nollywood bad boy who is now a member of newly registered Young Democratic Party as its Director General in the Diaspora explained that the vision of the party is to empower and promote Nigerian youths within and outside the shore of the country.
In an interview with Daily Independent, he said:
“We just want to say enough is enough. It is time power and our policies shift hands to fresher minds, to stronger fortes, to people that are ready to move with the momentum of time, tide and changes. But it cannot be conceivable if you are saddled in that position for over two decades? How can you grow? How can you go with the tide of time? Biologically too, time will catch up with you because you are growing old in that position.(continue)….
“Look at advanced countries of the world, and take a close look at people that have moved forward, these are people who have put things in place so that changes will be constant. Refreshment of minds, ideas, psychology, idiosyncrasies will be constant except for Nigeria.
“The same circle of people that governed us 20 years ago are the same people who are still ruling us, what are they still doing there? So many of them are in their 80s, grandfathers by all rights! Are they not tired? Suffering and smiling has become our motto, our slogan”,
“There are black men of strong background and strong voice abroad. We have them everywhere. There is a rippling effect, that whatsoever resonates here touches the whole world. This is the strongest economy, the most populous black nation in the world. You cannot say that what we are doing concerns Nigerians alone. It concerns Africa, in the weight of what we are doing, we are carrying everybody along.
“We are not saying that this is a revolution or we are here to manipulate anybody, no. It is an open and closed book. This change may not happen in this era but it is a right step in the right direction at least there is a voice which hitherto was none existence. There is a platform where you can air your grievances. It is a truthful and open platform.”

Lagos State declares today ‘Horn-Free Day’

horn
Considering the noise pollution caused by excessive use of horn by motorists, the Lagos State Government has gone ahead to declare today, Wednesday, October 15 as ‘Lagos Horn Free Day.’
This declaration marks the beginning of efforts of the state government to reduce the use of horn in the mega city or to totally transform the state into a Horn Free state as practiced in some big cities around the world.
Some cities around the globe use similar approach, thereby recording improvements on their road traffic systems, for example, Koramangala, India adopted a ‘No Horn Mondays’ initiative in association with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board which has so far shown impressive success.
The introduction of this initiative was announced at the 1st Lagos Drivers’ Appreciation Day which held on October 9th with the Commissioner for Transport – Comrade Kayode Opeifa and Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola as one of the distinguished guest.
The Governor and his Commissioner in their speech stated that the essence of curbing the excessive noise pollution in Lagos to its barest minimum was to further portray Lagos as the Centre of Excellence.
In addition, the Commissioner also highlighted that the implementation of this great initiative will build a paradigm and gradually, a horn free consciousness would be developed.
He therefore admonished transporters, private car owners and Okada riders as well as all motorists to support the government in ensuring this initiative is highly achieved through stringent loyalty to the innovation.

Notorious rapist arrested in Ekiti

Luck ran out of a man described by the Police as a serial rapist in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State when he was arrested for allegedly raping a 19 year old girl.
The suspect, Anthony Arogunmasa, widely known as Pastor in the area was said to have accosted his victim at about 8pm on the 23rd of September, 2014 and lured her to his room under the guise of performing spiritual cleansing on her.

“On getting to his room, the victim was threatened and put under fear of harm before being raped.
“Medical report confirmed that the victim was actually raped by the suspect while preliminary investigation revealed that he is a serial rapist who lures hapless women with ‘spiritual cleansing’ to have unlawful canal knowledge. He will be charged to court as soon as investigation into the case is concluded
Nigeria is truly a blessed nation amidst the leadership corruption and economy shambles...in this article, I bring to you, list of Nigeria's super rich and how they acquired their stupendous wealth...so get yourself a glass of lemon juice and adjust your reading glasses, sit back and enjoy the article...

The tendency, therefore, is that the richer they are, the more their business interests expand. In line with this corporate tradition, the rich investors get richer and, when they spend, they do so in a big way worthy of mention. This is because of the extensive attention attracted by their rare wherewithal and will to spend, including doling out money on humanitarian grounds. Among Nigeria’s privileged people are:

Aliko Dangote
Nigerian business tycoon Aliko Dangote is the richest man in Africa. He is the founder, Dangote Group, West Africa’s largest publicly listed conglomerate with diverse business interests such as sugar refining, flour milling, textiles, real estate and salt processing. Dangote Cement, Dangote Foods (noodles) and Dansa Juice complete the chain. His total net worth is about $16.1 billion as at March 2013.

Dangote spends money in philanthropic activities. He has stepped up his philanthropy in recent years, giving over $100 million to causes ranging from education and health through flood relief, poverty alleviation to the arts. He acquired a private jet in April 2010 as a personal gift on the occasion of his 53rd birthday. The Bombardier Global Jet Express XRS (one out of a few) was estimated to cost $45 million. Dangote is also said to have purchased a private luxury yatch at the cost of $43 million made exclusively for his enjoyment. The yatch is named Mariya after his mother.

Mike Adenuga
Otunba Mike Adenuga built his fortune in business from banking, mobile telecom service and oil. He founded Globacom, now Nigeria’s second largest mobile phone network, in 2006. Globacom has more than 24 million subscribers in Nigeria, and also operates in the Republic of Benin. Adenuga made his first fortune at the young age of 26 in the 1970s by distributing lace and other materials.
He later had another opportunity to expand his fortune during the military regime of Ibrahim Babangida when he was awarded a contract for the construction of military barracks in some military installations in the country. He is presently worth $4.7 billion, thus justifying him as one of Nigeria’s super-rich businessmen.

Adenuga is a philanthropist who spends a lot of money on selfless activities aimed at bringing succour and assistance to less-privileged people. Adenuga also takes his philanthropic goodwill to the area of sports development in Nigeria and Africa through his selfless investments in sports. His demonstration of philanthropic largesse cuts across sponsorship of Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and the Super Eagles. This was one of the points highlighted by President Goodluck Jonathan at his (Adenuga’s) 60th birthday. “You are celebrating 60 years of a remarkable life filled with monumental achievements in high entrepreneurship, philanthropy and dedicated service to God and country,” the president said.

Similarly, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Mr Issah Hayatou, used the occasion of Adenuga’s birthday celebration to appreciate his contributions to the society. He recognised that Adenuga had not only affected Africa positively through his accomplishments in business but has also been the pillar of sports on the continent.

Adenuga loves spending money on what gives him joy. It could be said that, partly for this reason, he acquired a private Bombardier Global Express jet, fitted with the latest flight facilities. It is one of the most luxuriously built private jets in the world, just like that of Dangote.

In the early 1980s when banking was seen as one of the most lucrative jobs, she took a bold step towards realisation of her personal dreams by quitting her job in the bank to study Fashion Design in England. She returned to Nigeria a few years later to establish Supreme Stitches, a high-profile fashion firm which provides special services to exclusive clientele. She also founded Rose of Sharon Foundation, a charity organisation.

This fashion design business led her into fortune. She was in a position to make and sell high-level clothing to the fashionable wives of some military big shots and other society women.

In May 1993, Mrs Alakija set out for oil business. It was then she applied for an allocation of oil prospecting licence (OPL) to explore 617,000-acre block granted to her company, Famfa Oil Limited. However, at that time, she had no experience in oil exploration -- she was just a new entrant in the business.

Also, Mrs Alakija is widely reported to own a private jet, Bombardier Global Express 6000 which cost about $46 million, added to acquisition of a property at Hyde Park. This is one of the ways she spends her wealth, which gives her happiness. Furthermore, she is a philanthropist who derives joy in giving assistance to widows and other less-privileged in society.

On establishment of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, he stated the foundation’s objective as to “prove that the African private sector can itself be primary generator of economic development”. Among the roles of the foundation are deployment of resources to generate reliable solutions to the business constraints that derail and clog the growth of business in the private sector in Africa.

Moreover, Elumelu ploughs a lot of resources in philanthropic activities. Apart from the Tony Elumelu Foundation, he was also a member of the World Economic Forum’s Regional Agenda Council on Africa. Interest in paying family hospital bills, unpaid school fees, providing for families who cannot provide their needs -- all form part of what Elumelu does through his catalytic philanthropic method of assisting human beings within the shores of Nigeria and Africa.

Hajiya Bola Shagaya
Hajiya Bola Shagaya is hailed as one of Nigeria’s richest businesswomen. She is the CEO of Bolmus International Limited. She has interests in several sectors ranging from oil and gas, banking, cash crops export, real estate, fast-moving consumer goods and photography.

She has been a very influential figure in Nigeria’s corridors of power for decades and has excelled in a society where the role of women has been restricted traditionally. Her rise to affluence and power is not attributed to parental or marital influence. This woman of means has skilfully built her network and wealth from a humble background, and has proven herself as an outstanding power broker with impressive entrepreneurial skills.

In the manner of an astute entrepreneur, she saw opportunities in the populous image-conscious Nigerian market, prompting the expansion of her Konica marketing operations to photo laboratory services; that was the birth of another of her companies – Fotofair (Nigeria) Limited. Today, Fotofair is a leading photo laboratory company in Nigeria with over 30 laboratories spread across the nation.

Hajiya, as she is fondly called, has impressively carved her path in the sixth-largest oil producer’s oil and gas sector. As far back as the late 1980s, during the Gen. Ibrahim Babangida-led military administration, she had steered her oil and gas company through the highly connected and contested Nigerian oil and gas sector to secure allocations for oil blocks. Thus began her reign as an indigenous oil marketer.

Around 2005, she became the managing director of Practoil Limited and, in 2011, she founded another exploration company, Voyage Oil and Gas Limited.

Shagaya, who is of Yoruba extraction, a tribe distinguished as party enthusiasts of the over 200 tribes in Nigeria, often attends the biggest social events dressed in “anko” with Nigeria’s first ladies -- a local practice of Nigerian women indicating bosom friendship by wearing the same traditional attire especially to social functions.

The one-time patron of the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN) is a collector and retailer of the finest and most exquisite jewelleries from different fashion capitals of the world. “I love fashion, artworks and beautification endeavours,” she said.

Through his Foundation, he has donated over $1 million, making him the highest donor from Africa.

This Anambra State-born politician and businessman has heavily invested in education.

The graceful billionaire is not all about heavy-weight work. “I’m also a lover of sports, especially Polo”, she said. She has consistently supported Polo tournaments in Nigeria over the years.
