CAN GRADUATES OF THESE STILL GET JOB

of recent...about a couple of days ago..I basically made a write up of the best top 10 courses and hot cake in nigeria as at today..

but I have finally, come up with another write up of the top 10 worst degrees with lowest potential for employment in nigeria as at today

certainly, there is no degree that guarantees one job in & by itself however given the current economic situation and the fast pace of economic and technological shift in the continent and nigeria in particular there are degrees you would be better off not investing your time and resources to acquire as opportunities affected in those areas are increasingly getting eroded...if however you have a degree in any of them and finding it tough to make career headway it's time to put on your thinking cap
1 General Arts;
this cover anything from art history to painting/sculpture in the western world and developed countries having a degree in the arts could fetch one decent job opportunities several years ago..after the depression however with many european economic still sttuggling to recover it's becoming increasingly tough to find opportunities for majors in such areas like archeology,painting/fine art, history et cetera.

the opportunities for these sort of degrees are shrinking and people with the academic credentials thinking to get themselves a job in related field would have to do a cot of innovative and pro active thinking.
career counsellors advise those who want to study such things as art, dance, and music to have a specific strategy...sometimes a way out could be getting a higher degree(such as masters).

2 Humanities and liberal Arts;
if you love sitting and thinking about the intricacies of life and expounding on theories of existence or analysing political theories and events there may not be enough opportunities to do that in real life with your philosophy or political science degree to earn good money..
Humanities and liberal Art degree courses like Anthropology, political science, philosophy and many more do not give the graduates who passes them specific in road into the employement market..unlike professional courses like engineering, and the business field having a degree in any of the humanities may not really point one to a specific career direction.

3 Education;
unless you are willing to take higher degrees and pursue teaching opportunities at higher levels of the education ladder having an education degree is hardly going to get you the best jobs.
the only ways a graduate degree holder in education will do better is either to go for higher qualification and try to break into higher level teaching or do a career switch entirely and go for higher qualification in a different field that has more career prospects.

4 Religious studies;
Given the way churches and self styled pastors are springing up in every nook and cranny it should appear that splurging money on a religious studies degree will present the holder with bright prospects...however nothing can be further from the truth..except you are willing to plunge in and open your own church down the street, becoming a quran clutching preacher et cetera...there are hardly any existing opportunities for you to explore if you have a religiouss studies degree and wish to exploit opportunities there in.

5 Mass communication;
In considering mass communication we had a struggle with choosing a few other courses ahead of mass communication but at the end the argument was too much against mass communication degree.
the increasing introduction of media technology is eating away at the former strongholds of mass communication graduates..reporters and journalist find the rug being gradually pulled of their feet as bloggers and writers who hitherto knew nothing about mass communication.

take over the business of news discovering and sharing newspaper and television are no longer holding the baton in exclusive control of the media business...for mass comm.majors who wish to find and pursue the right career day need to understand the change in mass media and communication tools and acquire the right skills.
other worst course are;
6 botany
7 social studies
8 english literature
9 zoology
10 forest and wildlife management(wonder what you wana do with these, maybe you will use the certificate for cutting of woods in the forest)

Good Reasons To Do A PhD

Good Reasons To Do A PhD

1. To achieve something significant

Some of us who have ambitions to make money should just become an entrepreneurs and forget Phd. But if you are
ambitious in that you wish to challenge yourself,
push yourself to new heights or achieve a
difficult goal, then a doctorate may be for you.

2. To discover or learn something new

Some of us are very curious when we are young, we love to learn new thing, i think you will make a great research. If you feel a
driving force pushing you to explore and learn
new things, then you may love research, and find
a doctorate is perfect for you.

3. To improve yourself and your life

Doing a PhD for the sake of a pay rise is not a
good reason. But if you want to improve your
abilities to understand and solve problems,
increase your confidence, make yourself a better
communicator and gain skills that may lead to a
better job, then a doctorate may be right for
you.

4. It fits you/Natural to you

Some people are made for a doctorate. You
might have grown up doing countless little
'research projects' as hobbies. You might have a
natural thirst for knowledge or an insatiable
appetite for reading books about a particular
topic. You might have had a life-long fascination
- even obsession - about something significant.
If this sounds like you, and you can tailor a
doctorate to suit your particular needs, then
you'll love it.

Bad Reasons To Do A PhD

Most of us have several reasons for wanting to
do a doctorate, and of course they're not all
good.

1. Peer Pressure

If you're thinking of a doctorate because all your
friends are going to try, well done on having
some clever friends. But you will have to do the
doctorate, not them. How will you feel if they all
achieve their PhDs while you struggle on, year
after year, getting further and further into debt? and we all know Nigeria professors

2.Horrible Job

If you are doing a job that you hate and just
want to quit - then find another job. A PhD is
not an escape hatch through which you fall into
a better world, it is a long steep staircase that
takes extreme perseverance to climb.

3.Fulfilling the Ambitions of Others

If your partner or parents think that you should
do a doctorate because they wished that they
had - tell them to do one themselves. It must be
your own ambition that drives you, not the
ambition of anyone else. Otherwise you will
resent them during the tough times of your work
and blame them if it goes wrong.

4. Rebelling

If everyone is telling you to go and get a job
and you don't like being told what to do, then
make sure you are rebelling towards something
you want, and not simply away from irritating
parents or a boring town.

5.Misplaced Genius Complex

If you think you are brilliant and will solve all of
the world's problems, but every one of your
undergrad lecturers is telling you that your
ideas are unworkable and that you are not cut
out for a doctorate - it is quite likely that they
are right and you are wrong.

6. Insecurity

You might feel that your talents are never
appreciated and you crave more respect from
people around you. Perhaps you like the idea of
impressing by showing a CV with 'Dr' on
it. This is not as daft as it sounds, for doctors do
genuinely receive preferential treatment, and in
some countries are treated with enormous
respect. You are more likely to get a better job
as well. However, if insecurity is your main
driving force then you may struggle, for you will
be surrounded by professors and post-docs who
are more experienced than you throughout the
course of your PhD. You will receive respect from
them when you earn it, not because of the `Dr'
which they have themselves.

7. You've Done This Kind of Thing Before
If you have worked in a similar area, you may
have already done research or activities very
similar to those that you will do during a
doctorate. Or perhaps you have done a research-
based project for your MSc. This is excellent
experience and will help you, but a word of
warning: most people think they know what they
are letting themselves in for, and they are
wrong. An undergraduate or MSc project does
not give a proper taste of a PhD any more than Working in
industry is very different from academia. Even for
someone with experience, the doctorate is not as
easy as you might think.

Hopefully, you will find that more of the good
reasons apply to you than the bad ones. Be
honest with yourself. You are thinking of
embarking on something that can change your
life, either for better or worse, depending on
you.

Reasons Why Phd Take Too Long To Study In Nigeria

Yes you will ask "why the multiple thread on P.h.d?" But I think the frustration involved is worth discussing. Why do P.h.d take too long to finish? Why do some people get frustrated out after freezing their account? Though Phd involves a lot of cross examination but there are some other annoying factors that contribute to such delays and duration which I try as much as possible to compile here using Nigeria situation.

Possible causes

1. Nigeria Professor/Lecturers are Wicked

Please if you are a lecturer here, don't be offended but the bad egg are more than the good eggs. Take for example in the school I graduated from (name withheld) a particular lecturer will come to the class with this abnormal and infuriating quote "Nobody can have A's in my course because A" belong to God, B" for extra-ordinary student and C" for brilliant student". Yes! Infact the highest in the class is usually "46, 47 or sometimes "50", he made everyone look dull and silly. I took a bold step one day to challenge him which was later a detriment to my final result "he said when he was in school, the lecturer that thought him that course Never give anybody A". Sorry I digress from the main topic but that is the major problem of Phd in Nigeria. A professor will tell you that before he can get to the level he his now, he know what he pass through, so "a reprisal attack". The truth is, if I get Phd through pain and stress and someone want to get same through me easily, I remember the past and do same to him/her(that is the way we think). I remember one of my favourite lecturer back then in school, after spending 2years studying this unfinished Phd, he was frustrated out after spending money, I ask him what happen "he said he was surprise that after spending energy on his thesis, his supervisor said he cannot find is research work, he should start all over. All over, lol..after 2years..with just 1year is almost through now in australia

2. Professors will explore you

Quote me wrong if you did not face same at your undergraduate level. The high rate of corruption in Nigeria has affected every affairs of the nation including our university system, now adays you can be sleeping at home and be passing your exam if you have what my igbo brother will call "ego". I remember a lecturer too from another school, he said this particular supervisor has been procrastinating the correction of his research work, this very day he thought to himself with frustration "what on earth can I do?" And that Nigeria sense came back to him, he went aftermath to change the four tyre of the supervisor's car including the fueling. He continue by saying "My brother, after doing this, the supervisor look at me on my face and say "you have not been serious with your thesis, have not been seeing you! Let me see what you have done so far. The name of that university is in Lagos (I didn't mention any name now).

3. Phd involves money

Aside the corruption aspect, Phd as to do with an indepth knowledge of a particular problem you are trying to solve. Some research thesis might involves you traveling from state to state, out of the country and do forth, this depend on the nature of the research though, and most of this research work are exploratory in nature. Another fact is that before you can start any Phd work you must atleast publish 3 conference paper in a reputable country and publisher. I remember receiving a mail some month ago inviting me for a conference in paris, that is, I should submit my research work for a conference paper. I try and check the authencity of the mail and confirm it to be genuine but attached to the mail is a pdf file showing the break down in payment " 300 pounds(without accomodation), 450 pounds( with accomodation), if I cannot come due to transportation but still submit my paper(250 pounds). Though some will say is cheap but how about some that cannot afford the money, that is why most P.hd programme in advanced countries are based on scholarship.

4. The assessment of Phd thesis is a large and serious undertaking, it requires a substantial period of uninterrupted time

Our examiner, supervisor too are human not machine, they are busy people with many calls in their time and unforeseen circumstances which may arise in their lives which may delay their assessment and submission of report within the usual time frame

5. I too know syndrome/ Not taking correction

This stuffs affect me a lot when I was in school, no lecturer or supervisor or professor will ever accept that they are wrong especially from those they are supervising or teaching. P.hd in Nigeria is regarding as "I'm an expert in my field" which mean you are to learn from them and not to correct them, even though you are so sure that you are very crystal correct, you need to pretend that you are massively wrong if you want to graduate or get your thesis approved or assessed. Majority of us may this argue this point but I think is also a key factor in Nigeria

6. Spiritual connection

Like it or not it is one of the disease in Nigeria. Let me give you an example " I was listening to a tape by pastor olukoya( a respected man of God, mountain of fire) and he gave an example of a man that has been writing a professional exam for more than 30 years but to no avail, each time he try, something will happen, the invigilator coming might have an accident, a crisis might occur which will make the paper impossible to write(postponed) meanwhile affecting others. When he examine himself he went abroad to write the exam, that same problem keep occurring until when he seek spiritual help and discover that is family is behind him. Some of us are coming from a polygamous family where you are the only one thriving among others such can bring a discord and you discover that a Phd of 2yrs is taking you 25years.

7. Jealousy

This apply to those in the academics already(I mean lecturer). Take for example the polytechnic where I graduated. Every other lecturers in that department have only masters degree while there is this particular one running his Phd programme. This create a serious hatred and backbitting that you will even see in the open, some will even come to the class telling everyone without no shame that "look at him, he is bragging with ego because his doing Phd and talking to his superiors with no respect". My brethren this lecturer never complete that P.hd, they even went ahead to report him for not attending his class for his own personal interest. Let me give you another example, a particular lecturer in a university in the north was also facing similar problem to the extend that no nigeria university want to accept him for Phd because his colleague have blackmail him. He took a wise decision, without informing anybody in the department, he applied in a university in malaysia, the malaysian professor was so surprise that a man they have been reading his journal, textbook never even have a Phd, they told him not to worry that he will give him the Phd in due time. Till now nobody in his school knew his was during a Phd.

8. Research Topics (Thesis Topic)

Majority of us give ourselves an headache of picking a topic you cannot handle, why not pick a narrow topic that you can easily handle and finish in time. This factor contribute to reasons why supervisors keep canceling and canceling till you are frustrated.

9. Lack of proper research guidance given by the research

Without guides, a candidate cannot register for PhD itself

10. Lack of experience of the Researcher pursuing PhD which lead to Lack of interest

Before you embark on any phD programme is better you seek advice from those that have pass through it before you are frustrated out

11. Lack of Grant of permission from the organization you work for.

Not only your organization, quote me wrong "How many Nigeria university have a grant for scholarship?

This are just my own perceived causes which I'm very sure are more than this, should in case you have done your phD thesis you can account your experience here, so that others with such ambition will learn..thanks

BISIMILLAHI: VERY SIMPLE WAYS TO STOP ZINA

Salam alaikum warahmotullah wabarakatu.

Anyone who is addicted to committing zina must hasten to deal with it in a number of wayz, including the following:

1. Seriously think of getting married, because this is the sharia (legal islamic law) and natural protection for the Muslim man and woman. If you are planning marriage with a brother or sister but he or she doesn't feel like marrying for whatever reason, please ignore him or her and move on with your search. Whoever is not willing to marry is not worth wasting your time on. Be free from bondage of zina of all kind. I mean zina of mouth, hands, mind, eyes, legs. etc. All minor zina leads to the major one. Give him or her the RED CARD an defeat shaitan.

2. Fasting if one cannot get married. Strive to be fasting regularly with lots of zikir.

3. Muslim Men and Women should strive to stregthen their Eeman (faith) by reading the Qur'an, offering naafil (voluntary) prayer and doing other kinds of acts of worship.

4. Taking care to choose righteous friends. Edit your friends and keep only good practising muslims.

5. Keeping away from anything that might provoke desire. One of the most obvious of this is looking at things which are haram (unlawful). Avoid watching unnecessary movies.

6. Remembering the punishments for zina in this world and in the hereafter, and that its evil affects far out weigh the immediate pleasure that a person may experience.

7. Make Dua, get up in the latter part of the nights and beseech your lord, submitting yourself to him and humbling yourself before his majesty asking him to rid you of the problem. Turn to your lord and call upon him, for he is the best one to be asked -may he be glorified- and He does not turn away his slaves if they are sincere.

We ask Allah to keep us safe and sound with regard to our commitment and our wordly affairs and to help us put our affairs in order before we meet our lord. Aameen

BSC VS HND.................READ ON

Success in life should not be determined by our alma mater. I believe that everybody has a chance to be successful whether they went to a university or polytechnic. Our success is in our hands. This write-up is not meant to degrade HND holders. I am one of those that are strongly against the discrimination against HND holders. However, the reality on ground (due to the discrimination) is that BSc is still more superior to HND and I have given reasons below to state the obvious but bitter truth.

1 Entrance Qualification - The entrance qualification to the university is more stringent than that to the polytechnic. The UTME cut off for universities is higher than that of polytechnics. All universities require a minimum of 5 credits in WASSCE/NECO while most polytechnics accept 4 credits as minimum requirement. It is well accepted that the entrance qualification to any institution says a lot about the prestige attached to such institution.

2 Quality of Lecturers- You cannot compare the quality of lecturers in the university to that of the polytechnic. Most university lecturers are professors and PhD holders with decades of teaching and research experience to show for it. Some of them are universally renowned professors. The head of universities are always renowned and experienced academic professors. Most Master degree holders in universities are mere assistant lecturers. The same cannot be said of polytechnics where most of their 'experienced' lecturers are mere BSc holders. Most rectors of polytechnics are Msc holders, only a few have PhD. Even corps members lecture polytechnic students. Has it ever occurred to you why polytechnics find it hard to employ even their own products (HND holders) to lecture? Instead, they employ mostly university grads to teach.

3 Research Work- University is the bedrock of research work. Research work lays the foundation of advancement and any sane society will rate any higher institution by the quality of their research. Unfortunately, the quality of research work in Nigerian universities is poor but this is still far better than that of polytechnics that do absolutely nothing (or very negligible research work).

4 Funding- Universities are much more funded than polytechnics. One of the metrics for determining the quality of an institution is the level of funding. No wonder, the government and the media pay more attention to the demand of ASUU over ASUP. Thus, you will expect a product of a university to be better trained than that of a polytechnic.

5 Quality of students - The brightest, youngest and most motivated students go to the universities. Go to a polytechnic and what you will see a lot of dejected, not-so-young students who have written UTME many times but have not succeeded. A few in the polytechnics are young and bright, but they are few and far between. The majority of young and bright students, just fresh from secondary school are found within the 4 walls of the university. Thus, most university grads are of higher intellectual quality than their poly counterparts.

6 Size and Beauty of Campus - A lot can be said about the quality of an institution by the architectural structures of the institutions. Let's take the elite universities and polytechnics in Nigeria for instance. One cannot compare the architectural edifices in the prestigious OAU, UI, ABU, UNN, UNILAG, UNIBEN to that of Yabatech, Kadpoly, Auchi, Bida Poly or any polytechnic in Nigeria. No polytechnic in Nigeria can even compete with some 2nd and 3rd generation universities like FUT Minna, UniJos, FUTA, etc in terms of structures.

7 Preference / Demand - The preference for BSc is higher than for OND/HND. All or almost all aspiring students wish to go to the university. Employers generally prefer BSc holders over HND holders. HND holders are seen as middle level manpower (That was the intent when polytechnics were initially created). There are more opportunities for BSc holders not just within the country but outside Nigeria. Jobs and scholarship opportunities abound for BSc holders and undergraduates while it is almost non-existent for HND holders.

8 Self Esteem - Last but not the least, an average BSc holder is more confident than an average HND holder. This is however not the fault of HND holders who unfortunately have to face stiff discrimination in the labour market, thus negatively impacting on their self esteem.

Anatomy of Phone buying

These days, the power and functionality in a
palm-sized smartphone would have taken up an
entire storage room in the 1960's. Today, your
cell phone is a constant companion, a pocket-
sized link to the news, entertainment and social
circles that color your world. It's your office
assistant, your bank, your game, your book, your
radio, your music player, your source of
entertainment, your bible, your Qur'an, your
weight loss monitor and so much more.
That's why it's so important to find the right
mobile phone that best fits your needs.
At Engr. Demo UNN Nsukka, we focus on making sure you
take informed decisions and as such have
created a buying guide to advice you on the
things to consider before buying a mobile phone.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

1. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO USE IT FOR?

Do you want to use your phone just to make
calls and receive calls? Or do you need your
phone to send text messages only? Alternatively,
do you want to use your cellphone to take
pictures? Browse the internet?

The thing with smartphone technology these
days is that there are so many phones in the
market and they are all the 'best' at one thing or
the other. Some phones have the best cameras,
the best internet browsers etc. In choosing your
mobile phone, focus on what you want to use it
for. If you understand exactly what skills and
capabilities you'd like to see in your new phone,
it'll help you avoid paying too much for features
you don't want or need.

For a good balance, we like the Samsung Galaxy
Note 4, Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8,
Huawei Ascend Mate 2, Nokia Lumia 1520. For
iPhone loyalists, consider the iPhone 6 Plus. For
monetary considerations try the Tecno Phantom
Z and the Blackberry Z3.

2. WHAT'S THE BATTERY LIFE?

With many smartphones having dual-core, quad-
core (hardcore any time soon?) processors and
big screens, smartphones have never been more
powerful–or more power hungry. Yes, specs and
apps matter, but what good are they if you’re
looking for a charger by midday?

One way to tell how much battery life your
smartphone will provide on a charge is to take a
look at the battery capacity. Typical phone
batteries start in the neighborhood of 1,700mAh
and go all the way up to 3,500mAh. Generally,
the closer you get to 3,000 mAh (milliamp hours)
— or above the better. In The Laptop Mag battery
test, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 topped the list
and lasted for 14 hours and 43 minutes. Other
phones that put up a good showing in the test
include the Sony Xperia Z3 (12 hours , 9
minutes), Nokia Lumia 1520 (11hours, 28
minutes), Samsung Galaxy S5 (10 hours, 50
minutes), HTC One M8 (10 hours, 50 minutes),
and Apple iPhone 6 Plus (10 hours).

3. DOES SIZE MATTER?

All pun intended. Big-screen phones are growing
on shoppers. In fact, phablets (phones with
displays 5 inches or larger) now account for
about 20% of all smartphones sold in the
Nigerian market. Bigger phone screens give you
a lot more real estate for watching movies,
playing games and enjoying photos. The trade-off
is that the phone isn’t easy to operate with one
hand, tends to be heavier and can be a tight fit
for front pockets.

Large (Over 5.1-inches): So-called
"phablets" (phone + tablets) have bigger screens,
which provide a generous viewing area and
easier on-screen typing. But they can be bulky.
Standard Size (4.5 to 5.1 inches): The
mainstream size for flagship phones like the
Galaxy S5, Nokia Lumia and HTC One.
Compact Size (Below 4.5 inches): Many phones,
including the 4-inch iPhone and the 4.3-inch HTC
One Mini provide smaller, more pocket-friendly
form factors.

4.WHAT OPERATING SYSTEM SHOULD YOU
USE?

If you're buying a smartphone, the operating
system can make a big difference in how you
use your device. At the moment there are four
major operating systems vying for your attention.
Here's a brief overview of what each one has to
offer.

Android
Open source platform that allows third-party
developers to create apps and tools
Designed as a consumer- and social
network-centric platform
Easy to customize to match your needs and
tastes
Over a million apps available via the Google
Play store

Apple iOS
Integrates iTunes app and Safari mobile Web
browser
The same technology powers all Apple
devices for seamless communication
between Apple devices
Thousands of officially approved apps
available via the App Store.

BlackBerry
Created for business users for easy access
to e-mail and text messaging
Updated BlackBerry 10 operating system
creates a more interactive, user-friendly
experience
Ideal for international use

Windows Phone
Personalized, user-friendly experience that
communicates seamlessly with Microsoft
computers and other devices
Easily customizable touch-screen interface
SkyDrive app allows easy management of
documents, photos and videos

CAMERA

A phone's camera depends on a whole host of
variables. Though you might think that more
megapixels is better, that's not always the case.
You can get sharper images from a 5-megapixel
camera than from an 8-megapixel shooter, so it's
better to concentrate on other specs such as the
quality of the lens as well as the camera sensor.

STORAGE & EXPANSION

Given that you’ll store everything from photos
and music to videos and apps on your
smartphone, opt for as much internal memory
