How To Map And Use Custom Domain For Your Blogger Blog
Many blogs start as free publisher accounts, and they are mostly as yourblog.blogspot.com or yourblog.wordpress.com.
With time, you get tired of theis and you either desire something more
professional, more personal or you desire advance functionalities. Hence
you want to use your own custom domain, you want to break free of the
.blogspot.com or .wordpress.com tail chain. The following tutorial will
exegete how you can map your custom domain and use it for your free
blog.
1. Needed is just for your to head to whichever domain registrar you desire, register your favorite domain name, say YOU.COM. Now, you wish people who want to go to your blog simply type YOU.COM, and they are there. Good. Ensure you register your domain with DNS. Make note of the login DNS settings page for the domain.
2. Log into your Blogspot account at blogspot.com and then click on 'Settings' on the left-hand side. Now click on 'Publishing'. Click on 'Add a Custom Domain' to bring up the next screen. Select 'Switch to Advanced Settings'.
Next enter your domain name WITH the www prefix (example www.you.com) and then click 'Save'.
You'll see an error message as in the diagram below. That's ok.
3. Copy the two records 1. and 2. it asks you to create. Leave this window open and now head to your domain registrars CName editing settings page. Below is a snapshot from Namecheap.
4. Now find 'aliases CNAME Records' and edit the records as below. Enter the two records as shown in the image above and click Save Settings. That's all here.
5. Now head back to the tab you have opened at your Blogspot Panel, and now click 'Save' again at the bottom of the page. This time it will accept the changes, and bring you back to your main page.
Now click 'Publishing' again as you did in the first steps (Settings -> Publish) and select 'edit' beside your domain name
Put a check in 'redirect you.com to 'www.you.com' (where you.com = your own custom domain name) and then click 'Save'
That's all! Almost instantly, or within 24 hours, your custom domain name YOU.COM will load your blog.
