Yaya Sanogo helped himself to a first-half hat-trick, as Arsenal defeated Benfica 5-1 in their first game of this year’s Emirates Cup.
The French striker who has never scored before the Gunners, got off the mark in the 26th minute, after great work from Aaron Ramsey from the right. Joel Campbell volleyed in Hector Bellerin’s cross to make it 2-0 too Arsenal, before Sanogo grabbed a brace before the interval.
The 21-year-old tapped in a rebound after the break to make it 5-0, before Nico Gaitan headed in a consolation for the Portuguese side.
In the first game of the day, Monaco were held to a 2-2 draw by Valencia.
