Bauchi Police Arrests 43 Robbery Suspects & Rap*sts




The Bauchi State police command has arrested over 30 armed robbery suspects and 13 rapists
The officers and men of the command also recovered arms and ammunition, an improvised explosive device, six vehicles and five motorcycles in their efforts to reduce crime in the state.
The commissioner of police, Bauchi State command, Lawal Shehu, stated this while briefing journalists at the police headquarters. He said the suspects were arrested between August, 2014 and now.
“The police recovered three Barreta rifles, two G3 rifles, one K2 rifle, one double barrel gun, one locally made pistol, 10 fabricated guns and 14 rounds of 7.62mm (short) live ammunition from criminal elements in the state and one improvised explosive device concealed in a fire extinguisher. Also, one dark-blue Sharon vehicle, with registration number, Lagos CF 679EKY, two trucks, three Golf vehicles and five motorcycles were recovered,” Shehu said.
The commissioner said the suspected armed robbers specialised in blocking federal highways at night and extorting money from their victims in Darazo, Misau, Soro, Giade, Toro and Alkaleri areas of the state.
He lamented that a new trend of crime was bedevilling the state, including raping of minors. “On this note, the command recorded over 10 cases of rape between August till date and arrested 13 suspects, eight of which were charged to court for prosecution while five are under investigation and will also be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Shehu said.
He said the police had arrested over 100 suspects in connection with various offenses, including burglary and theft, fraud, vandalism of NITEL cables, obtaining under fraud pretence, as well as some members of the dread Sara-Suka (thugs).
He said some high profile suspects arrested in the state were transferred to Abuja for discreet investigation.
He assured that the command had put in place crime preventive measures in order to nip in the bud, all forms of crimes in the state. Shehu appealed to parents and guardians to always take good care of their children and wards in order not to fall prey to rapists who were on the rampage in the state.
